Professor MELISSA KANG
Melissa Kang is an Associate Professor in Public Health at the University of Technology Sydney, and Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of General Practice, Westmead Clinical School, The University of Sydney. She is also Senior Career Medical Officer in Youth Health, Western Sydney Local Health District.
Melissa’s research interests include adolescent sexuality and sexual health. Her PhD involved an evaluation of a chlamydia testing intervention via randomised controlled trial conducted entirely in cyberspace. She has also explored adolescent sexuality and sexual health concerns in a range of qualitative research studies. Melisa has a major interest in the health care needs and access to health care for young people, including those who are marginalised. She has led two major NSW-wide studies on access to health care, models of youth friendly care and health system navigation, and this work has informed NSW Youth Health Policies. Melissa has written for the popular teenage girls’ magazine ‘Dolly’ since 1993 as ‘Dolly Doctor’ and received high commendation for communication and content as these relate to young people.
Melissa will contribute primarily to Stream 1 and Stream 3.
