Working together for change

OUR STORY

The experiences we have in the Teenage Decade can have a lifelong impact on our health and wellbeing.

That’s why we’re working with young people to reinvent teenage healthcare, removing the stigma and inequity that prevents them from getting the support they need, and championing their strengths, their insights and their leadership.

We are an interdisciplinary team of researchers, working together as the Centre of Research Excellence in Adolescent Health, funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council.

Add your name to our mailing list to stay up to date on our progress, and to join us in being a champion for the Teenage Decade.

WHY IT MATTERS
WHAT MAKES TEENAGERS DIFFERENT?

The Teenage Decade is a time of dramatic physical, mental and social changes. What does that mean for the health and wellbeing of teenagers, and how does it shape the way we should be thinking about teenage healthcare?

WH&Y COMMISSION

If we’re going to drive meaningful change in teenage health, we need to be receptive and responsive to the views teenagers express. The WH&Y Commission gets young people directly involved in the research and design of teenage healthcare.

HOW IT WORKS GET INVOLVED

“We want to play a real role in adolescent health research because its impact will be long lasting – for us and on future generations.”

-

Betty Nguyen

“Our teenagers are so valuable. They show up with enthusiasm, altruism and energy - and, as a society, we respond by stigmatising and ignoring them. They need us. And we neglect them.”

-

Professor Kate Steinbeck

"I believe the WH&Y Commission can achieve more equitable health outcomes for young people by exploring more pragmatic approaches, fostering greater collaboration, and redefining young people’s roles within adolescent health research."

-

Jennifer Nguyen

“We want people to know that young people’s health concerns have been neglected for too long; that their health concerns are as important as any other age group and deserve the same time and attention.”

-

Professor Rachel Skinner
