WHY IT MATTERS
WHAT MAKES TEENAGERS DIFFERENT?

The Teenage Decade is a time of dramatic physical, mental and social changes. What does that mean for the health and wellbeing of teenagers, and how does it shape the way we should be thinking about teenage healthcare?

WH&Y COMMISSION

If we’re going to drive meaningful change in teenage health, we need to be receptive and responsive to the views teenagers express. The WH&Y Commission gets young people directly involved in the research and design of teenage healthcare.

HOW IT WORKS GET INVOLVED

"We interact with the healthcare system at our most vulnerable moments, during times filled with confusion and uncertainty. Improving the way people receive healthcare may set the benchmark for how other social systems and programs relate to people and deliver community-centred outcomes."

-

WH&Y Commissioner Jessica Nguyen

"By collaborating with young people we can build better policies and services that deliver long-term benefits for both individuals and the broader community."

-

Dr Daniel Waller

"As part of the WH&Y Commission I want to raise the experiences and voices of young people in queer and culturally diverse communities, and help end the taboos, stigmas and invisible chains that are entrenched in today’s society."

-

WH&Y Commissioner Harpreet Dhillon

"The WH&Y Commission can spread awareness and help create needed change for young people in the Australian healthcare system. The Commissioners have provided really nuanced insights into the issues young people face - we're so excited to see what changes and ideas can be made!"

-

WH&Y Commissioner Anhaar Kareem

“We want people to know that young people’s health concerns have been neglected for too long; that their health concerns are as important as any other age group and deserve the same time and attention.”

-
