The WH&Y Commission connects researchers and decision-makers with a diverse group of knowledgeable and skillful young people who are passionate about the wellbeing and health of young people in Australia. 

 

We can help you conduct cutting-edge research that reflects the experiences, cultures and concerns of young Australians. We are trained and supported by researchers from the NHMRC-funded WH&Y Centre of Research Excellence, and the work we do is facilitated by the Western Sydney University Young and Resilient Research Centre.

WH&Y COMMISSION EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

 

The WH&Y Commission exists to help researchers, policy-makers and health professionals collaborate with young people on health research, service design and policy development. 

 

We are trained and supported by researchers from the NHMRC-funded WH&Y Centre of Research Excellence, and the Western Sydney University Young and Resilient Research Centre.

  1. What is the WH&Y Commission?

    • The WH&Y Commission exists to make it easier for researchers and decision-makers to collaborate with young people on health research, policy and service design. It was co-created by young people and the researchers of the NHMRC-funded WH&Y Centre of Research Excellence. Commissioners are trained and supported by experts in youth-engaged research so they can work with you as advisers, co-researchers and co-creators of health research.

  2. Who are the young people in the WH&Y Commission?

    • The WH&Y Commission is made up of more than 40 young people aged between 13 and 24 years, including young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD), and young people who identify as sexuality or gender diverse. We represent a broad range of experiences of Australian health and wellbeing systems, in areas including chronic health, disability, mental health, young carers, homelessness and regional access.

  3. Are WH&Y Commissioners trained?

    • Yes, all WH&Y Commissioners are trained to be effective advisors, co-creators or co-researchers, equipped to collaborate with youth health professionals. Training and support comes from the researchers of the NHMRC-funded WH&Y Centre of Research Excellence, and from the staff of the Western Sydney University Young and Resilient Research Centre.

  4. Does the WH&Y Commission help recruit young people as participants in research projects?

    • No. We do not recruit young people to be participants in youth health research projects as we are not a research panel or a recruitment service.

  5. What does it cost to work with the WH&Y Commission?

    • Costs vary according to the needs of your project. Generally, these include honorariums for the WH&Y Commissioners involved in the project, and a fee to cover the time of the research professionals who train, prepare and support them.
