WEBINAR: Ready to talk: a checklist to assess readiness for independent clinical communication in adolescents and young adults
PRESENTER: Dr Neda Karimi
DATE: 26 September 2023

Congratulations to the members of the WH&Y team who had their hard work and tireless contributions honoured by the Australian Association for Adolescent Health (AAAH) at the AAAH 2023 Youth Health Conference in Adelaide. WH&Y and the AAAH are close collaborators in the ongoing work of changing how young people’s health and wellbeing is researched and supported in Australia.

Join us for our final WH&Y webinar for the year, Generation Vape: E-cigarette use and norms among young Australians with Associate Professor Becky Freeman, on Tuesday 28 November at 1pm (AEDT).

A tobacco-control policy expert, Becky will present findings from the University of Sydney’s Generation Vape study. She will also lift the veil on how social media is being used to circumvent advertising bans.

When we launched the WH&Y CRE in Adolescent Health in 2017, we set a bold research agenda, and committed ourselves to developing and promoting a vibrant network of collaborators. In 2023, the impact of that foundational work is becoming increasingly apparent.

Take a look at our November newsletter to learn more about the latest work of The Commission, training opportunities and upcoming webinars.

Dr Cristyn Davies has made the wellbeing of young people the focus of her work for more than a decade. As a researcher, she has worked alongside young people to explore better approaches to supporting youth health. And as Board Ambassador of the LGBTIQA+ youth support service Twenty10 she has been tireless in her efforts to advocate for the rights of trans and gender diverse young people.

In 2023, the WH&Y Commission embarked on an ambitious schedule of meetings with policy makers and decision makers across the country. Commissioners from different backgrounds, representing vastly different lived experiences, spoke directly to senior people in government and politics to share their perspectives on the healthcare system, and how it is supporting the health and wellbeing of young people in Australia.

WEBINAR: Nothing about us without us: Youth Governance through the National Roadmap for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Adolescent Health
PRESENTER: Dr Jaameeta Kurji, India Shackleford and Jaeda Lenoy
DATE: 22 August 2023

On Tuesday 26 September at 1pm (AEST), WH&Y is hosting a webinar with clinical researcher Dr Neda Karimi that will explore the most effective ways clinicians can communicate with their adolescent patients.

For many years, Neda has investigated how healthcare providers and their patients interact and communicate. She has looked at the effect of different social factors on that relationship and whether better communication can create superior health outcomes.
